Mold in Your House

Homeowners can perform basic mold testing in their homes and save money. While we recommend hiring a professional when dealing with a serious mold problem, MBL has been helping homeowners perform their own basic mold testing which in most cases is sufficient. MBL can:

  • direct you to companies or professionals who can perform extensive mold investigations in homes
  • provide you with equipment and instructions on how you can take your own samples
  • analyze the samples for you
  • give you direction and assistance in getting the problem resolved.

Basic Mold Testing

How to sample Visible Mold

If you see spots or areas you suspect to have mold growth, you can perform a simple non-destructive mold sampling using scotch tape. Click Mold Sampling Instructions and Pricing for details.

How To Test Air For Mold

Testing air for mold is highly recommended because it shows exactly what types of mold spores and how much your family could be inhaling. Air testing involves the use of special equipment (pump and air cassettes or agar strips/plates) which we provide. We ship the equipment to your home or nearest courier depot (we don’t ship the equipment outside of Canada). For details on how air testing is performed click How To Sample Air For Total Fungal Spore Counts and for pricing click Mold Testing Kits.

The Indoor Mold Is An Early Warning Device

The mold (or mould, in the Queen’s English) has been the victim of a bad press. Mention the word and it conjures up an image of something rotting or in the process of decomposition. And yet, were it not for the mold that inspired the discovery of penicillin millions of lives would have been lost. […]
